GP vs Macca’s: ‘The smell of burgers and fries in my practice is no good for patient care’
A GP is battling a proposed 24-hour McDonald’s next to his practice, saying doctors will have to compete with the “smell of burgers and fries” wafting through as they counsel patients on obesity issues.
Dr Dragan Talic is also warning his practice will become an “island among McDonald’s” if the development proceeds, with the proposed site wrapping around his clinic on three sides.
His seven-doctor practice in Brisbane had “proudly operated from the little house on Plimsoll Street for the past 20 years” serving a patient base of 3000, Dr Talic told The Courier-Mail.
But the proposal by the fast-food giant to operate a 24-hour restaurant would impact access to his clinic, as well as send the smell of Big Macs through his practice.
