GP who ‘delegated’ clinical decisions to Stephen Dank could practise again

A GP who prescribed human growth hormones and anabolic steroids for clients of disgraced sports scientist Stephen Dank has been given the green light to apply for registration again.
The GP, now 73, was struck off in April 2020 over scripts she wrote for unregistered drugs including mechano-growth factor, follistatin-344 and the peptide bremelanotide, according to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
The tribunal said the GP “effectively delegated her role as a doctor” to Mr Dank, a former Essendon Football Club sports scientist, by prescribing the drugs for eight of his clients, allegedly to treat muscle injuries and obesity.
When the prescribing began in 2014, it was already two years since Essendon sacked Mr Dank over his controversial supplements program, which would eventually lead to the AFL suspending 34 footballers under its anti-doping code.
