GP who treated family members was under ‘coercive control’, tribunal hears

The GP was suspended for six months.

A GP who treated her father for more than 25 years because of the “coercive control” he exercised over her has been banned for six months.

The doctor, whose name was suppressed by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, was also accused of treating other family members, such as her mother and grandfather, going back to 2004.

She initially told investigators that caring for her parents was a “duty and privilege” because of the ethical debt she owed them for disrupting their lives to bring her from Ukraine to Australia for the sake of her future.

However, her lawyer also said her conduct resulted from “intergenerational coercive control”.
