GP with ‘deficient’ skin cancer knowledge excised 48 benign lesions from one patient: tribunal

A GP excised 48 benign lesions from one patient while claiming that another doctor had failed to diagnose the patient’s potentially fatal pre-melanomas, a tribunal has found.
The GP then offered the patient $1000 to retract a complaint, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal said.
The tribunal said the GP had not completed any skin cancer training before seeing the patient in question.
But between 2017 and 2021, he told the patient — aged around 60 — his lesions would likely prove fatal if not removed.
