GPs can advertise COVID-19 vax brands, TGA declares

In the face of a troubled rollout, the medicines watchdog has backflipped on its stance

GPs can finally create ads telling patients which COVID-19 vaccines they’re offering.

However, all messaging must be strictly related to the availability of a particular brand, with the TGA still forbidding any public statement comparing the vaccines.

Although Pfizer and AstraZeneca have become household names, practices in the rollout have been banned until now from mentioning them in public except when posting material created by the Federal Government.

But the regulator updated its guidance on Friday to say GP practices could now reference trade names and active ingredients when advertising the vaccines online or at their clinics.
