GPs can order the bivalent COVID-19 vax from October – but don’t rush

The new bivalent COVID-19 vaccine will be available from 10 October, but GPs should refrain from ordering stocks until they run out of the original Spikevax, health officials say.
They are also warning patients due for a booster shot to take whatever is available at the time.
The modest benefits of Moderna’s new vaccine over the first vaccine did not justify patients holding out for it, said Dr Lucas De Toca, head of the primary care response to COVID-19 at the federal Department of Health and Aged Care.
“Please, please, please ask patients not to wait,” he told a webinar for GPs.
