Public hospital bosses have again come under fire for demanding named referrals from GPs so outpatients can be treated privately under Medicare.

In recent years, there have been repeated claims that public hospitals are double-dipping by designing referral processes that require the names of specific doctors.

The issue has again flared after copies of a specialist referral form designed by Queensland Children’s Hospital were posted on social media last month.

The form includes a tick-box section with a menu listing the names of doctors heading each specialty (see below).
