GPs dumping thousands of COVID-19 vaccines as demand dwindles

There are also concerns the slow uptake is threatening the viability of GP vaccine clinics

GPs are throwing out thousands of expired COVID-19 vaccines, with claims some are pulling out of the rollout altogether amid the dwindling demand.

Latest figures show more than a third of eligible Australians are yet to receive their third dose, while more than 5% of adults are still yet to complete a primary course.

Dr Priya Kondappan’s practice has been forced to bin 2000 doses of mRNA vaccines after months spent trying to secure them.

“There’s definitely been a lack of initiative and people coming forward for the booster. We have seen very minimal uptake in people 30 years and below,” she says.
