GPs face ‘uncertainty’ in making long COVID diagnosis: Aussie study

An analysis of millions of GP records shows who is most likely to develop long COVID.

A study using data from seven million GP patient records has revealed women, those in middle age and those living in high socioeconomic areas are most likely to be diagnosed with long COVID.

But the findings “almost certainly” under-represent the prevalence of the condition in Australia, the authors wrote.

They looked at the electronic records of around 870 GP clinics in Sydney and Melbourne between 2018 and 2023 to identify 1588 GP-led long COVID diagnoses.

Women were more likely than men to be diagnosed with the condition, representing 65% of the cohort.
