GPs facing ‘death threats’ over vax exemptions

Concern is growing over rising levels of abuse aimed at GPs over medical exemptions, says Victorian RACGP chair Dr Anita Munoz

GPs are facing death threats, aggressive behaviour and even promises of reprisals against their families from patients angry at being denied a COVID-19 vaccine medical exemption.

The RACGP says it’s concerned about rising levels of abuse directed at doctors and practice staff around Australia as “anti-vax groups encourage people to seek exemptions” outside ATAGI guidelines.

The college’s Dr Anita Munoz stressed while it was a small minority of patients who were behaving aggressively, they tended to cluster in certain areas.

GPs in those communities had been in touch with the college to report the incidents, the RACGP Victoria chair said.
