GPs ignored in coronavirus mental health plan

AMA President Dr Tony Bartone says the National Mental Health Commission's response plan is 'disappointing'

The AMA has slammed the National Mental Health Commission’s COVID-19 response plan, which it says ignores GPs.

The Federal Government has allocated $48.1 million to support the 51-page National Mental Health and Wellbeing Pandemic Response Plan, which was released earlier this month.

The funding includes $19 million for primary health networks to expand services to older patients, provided by mental health nurses.

The plan also focuses on gathering data, including from the MBS, to collect evidence to model the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on mental health.
