GPs kept in the dark over new opioid pack sizes: RACGP
Poor communication over the changes left doctors unable to write scripts, says college's Professor Mark Morgan
GPs have been kept in the dark over the introduction of smaller opioid pack sizes, causing “unnecessary upset” for many, the RACGP says.
In some cases, GPs were unable to prescribe the new pack sizes until software updates came through.
Others had to write the scripts by hand or call the PBS Authority Prescription line for information, the college says.
Changes to the PBS’ reductions in opioid pack sizes, and limiting repeat prescriptions for non-chronic pain patients, came into effect on Monday 1 June.
