GPs left in the dark as practice deals with repeat blackouts

Dr Ajit Chaurasia is used to power blackouts at his practice in rural WA, but this time, a bushfire was approaching and a heatwave forced him to camp in his backyard for two days.

The most recent power outage, which lasted four days, saw him close the only practice in Wongan Hills for effectively a week, at a time when residents needed care the most.

The GP says his practice is hit by three to four blackouts a year.

It is why he has been petitioning the Shire of Wongan–Ballidu council to supply a generator to keep the practice running.
