Federal Court dismisses GP’s claim that PSR must hold in-person hearings

The GP was accused of 'systemically' billing MBS items for patients that had not attended an appointment.

A GP who appealed Professional Services Review findings on the basis he was not offered multiple in-person hearings during a nine-month investigation has lost his court case.

A Professional Services Review (PSR) committee had accused the GP of claiming Medicare consultations for patients he had not seen, as well as inadequate documentation.

It started a four-day hearing back in March 2021.

However, the GP said the hearing triggered memories he had suppressed for 35 years of being arrested on trumped-up charges in Uzbekistan as a teen and subject to “physical and emotional” torture.
