GPs will need extra financial support to manage patients concerned about blood clots linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine, Dr Karen Price says.

The RACGP president is ruling out any shift away from mandatory bulk-billing for prevaccination consult.

But she warned the ATAGI advice released last night — that those under 50 should be offered the alternative Pfizer vaccine because of the risks of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome — added “complications to the whole process”.

“Undoubtedly some patients will be nervous,” she said.
