The Queensland Government has promised cash incentives totalling up to $70,000 for interstate and overseas GPs who relocate to regional and remote communities.

A recruitment scheme for health workers has been expanded to include junior doctors and GPs who are willing to spend some time as VMOs in public hospitals.

It is one of a number of measures state Minister for Health Shannon Fentiman announced on Tuesday, with the aim of attracting more GPs to Queensland.

In May, the Queensland Government announced a scheme that allowed for up to $70,000 in bonuses for interstate and overseas doctors who took up permanent roles in regional parts of the state.
