UK GPs are being incentivised to vaccinate vulnerable housebound residents against COVID-19, as the country delivered almost 1000 vaccinations a minute over the weekend.

Doctors are being offered the equivalent of an additional $18 for every housebound patient they vaccinate, with the government attempting to inoculate all those aged 70 and over, along with front-line health workers, by 15 February.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the extra cash would allow doctors to reach the “most vulnerable people who might not be able to leave their homes”.

Based on the latest statistics, an average of 392,800 first doses would need to be administered each day to meet the 15 million first-dose target.
