A bidding war? Why GP registrars are being offered $30,000 in cash

The RACGP has released a white paper on how to fix the GP crisis, while states are considering their own measures

The Victorian Government’s pledge to fund $20 pharmacist consultations yesterday overshadowed significant other news.

Unusually, it was good news for GPs.

The Andrews Government, if re-elected on Saturday, says it will offer $30,000 “top-up” payments to first-year GP registrars in the state so they are not financially disadvantaged by choosing GP training over a hospital registrar job.

The $32 million election commitment also includes payments of $10,000 to registrars to cover the cost of their fellowship exams.
