GPs ‘scared of eviction from practices’ if they offer abortions, says drug sponsor

The pharmaceutical non-profit behind Australia’s medical abortion drugs says regional GPs fear eviction from their practices if they publicly advertise abortion services.
MS Health is currently bidding for the biggest overhaul of MS-2 Step (mifepristone and misoprostol) prescribing requirements since 2012, which would include removing the rule that GPs must retrain every three years and that pharmacists must be registered to dispense the drugs.
Director Jamal Hakim said the requirements added to the perception that abortion was not mainstream medicine.
“There’s a lot of stigma still,” he told Australian Doctor.
