GP Dr Jamal Rifi and other doctors have shared moving images of patients seriously ill with COVID-19 in a bid to shift community views about vaccinations and the Sydney lockdown.

Dr Rifi, whose practice is in south-west Sydney, the epicentre of the outbreak, asked his patient to share a message in Arabic about how serious the virus can become.

The unvaccinated patient, Khalid Elmasri recorded a video message from his hospital bed, urging others to learn from his story.

“Khalid wants to share the following video so people can take the advice from someone who got very sick,” Dr Rifi said in Arabic in an introduction to the video.
