GPs should be rebranded ‘family physicians’, says RACGP presidential candidate

GPs should officially be rebranded as ‘RACGP-accredited family physicians’ to ensure patients realise they are specialists, one of the candidates for the college’s presidency says.
Dr Karen Price says the adoption of the family physician title will be a priority if she wins the RACGP presidential election next month.
She says the name ‘general practitioner’ is poorly understood by the public and doesn’t capture the true extent of GP skills and training.
Based in Melbourne, Dr Price said she was “proud to be a GP” and stressed she had no plans to force any doctor to change their title.
