GPs turn to compounding pharmacists as antibiotic shortages bite
GPs are relying on compounding pharmacists to make up liquid amoxycillin as the RACGP warns that patients will end up in hospital as a consequence of ongoing antibiotic shortages.
Victorian GP Dr Bernard Shiu said the shortage of the common antibiotic had left him with no choice but to ask a compounding pharmacy to prepare paediatric amoxycillin syrup, which his patients paid for out of their own pockets.
