A major private health fund is being accused of undermining GPs after it made a deal to fund “health benefit packages” in pharmacies.

Private health insurer Bupa says it has begun offering members yearly pharmacy-based health checkups, including cholesterol and blood glucose tests, for a $42 annual subscription.

Under a partnership with major pharmacy chain Terry White, the annual subscription will also include two ‘pharmacist health consultations’ and an annual flu shot.

The subscription program, which will be limited to Bupa members, also includes discounted dose administration aids and additional points on Terry White’s loyalty program.
