GPs urged to take part in cosmetic surgery review

GPs are being urged to have their say on the future regulation of cosmetic surgery, including possible ‘endorsement’ for cosmetic doctors who have undertaken additional regulator-approved training.
On Friday, AHPRA and the Medical Board of Australia released a consultation paper on the upcoming review of the regulation of doctors who perform cosmetic surgery.
Former Queensland Health Ombudsman, Andrew Brown, who is heading the review that will cover scope of practice, urged “practitioners, including GPs…to have their say”.
He added that the issue of training, qualifications and experience of practitioners undertaking cosmetic surgery would be considered.
