GPs waiting for answers as new ADHD prescribing scheme draws closer

Dr Jess Weber has registered but says there's limited information available about the training required.

Dr Jess Weber says GPs have been left in the dark about the new push to allow them to diagnose, prescribe and manage ADHD.

Based on the NSW south coast, she was one of the first to register her interest in extra training to expand her scope of practice.

The initiative is meant to increase patient access as well as cut out-of-pocket costs with reports of patients paying up to $5000 for diagnostic assessment by psychiatrists and paediatricians.

From September, tier-one ‘continuation prescriber’ training is to be rolled out in the state — allowing GPs to prescribe ongoing ADHD prescriptions for stable patients of any age.
