GPs warn of ‘dire impact’ when payroll tax amnesty ends in June

GPs are warning of an “imminent” bulk-billing collapse when the SA payroll tax amnesty ends in just three months.
It will be the first state with a payroll tax amnesty to reach its expiry date on 30 June, with revenue officials writing to practice owners this month about whether they would be liable for the tax.
Dr Sian Goodson, chair of the RACGP’s SA faculty, said all GP practices that she knew had applied for the amnesty were successful.
But it appeared that all of them would be liable for payroll tax after the amnesty ended, forcing them to raise fees or close, she said.
