‘Life-changing impact’: Another state to allow GPs to diagnose and prescribe for ADHD
GPs in NSW will be allowed to diagnose and prescribe for ADHD from next year, in an attempt to increase access to care.
Announced on Monday, the State Government says the reforms will save patients both months of waiting as well as reduce significant out-of-pocket costs.
Training will be mandatory but it will be funded by the government for up to a thousand GPs over the coming months.
The government says first-tier training in ADHD — expected to be online and last a couple of hours — will allow the GP to prescribe ongoing ADHD medication for stable patients of any age.
