GPs won’t have to ‘police’ vaccine eligibility, says govt

Only basic documentation is needed for patients to prove they qualify for phase 1B

GPs will not have to ‘police’ eligibility for phase 1B and must only sight a driver’s license or prescription for most patients wanting a COVID-19 vaccine.

From 22 March, more than 1000 GP practices will join the national rollout, with another 3500 coming on board over the following four weeks.

The phase involves up to six million patients in designated groups such as those aged 70 or older, patients with underlying medical conditions, disabilities and their carers.

It also includes health workers and others in critical or high-risk jobs such as emergency services or meat processing, which saw large outbreaks last year.
