‘GPs worried they’re missing things’ as Delta takes hold
GPs are worried they’re missing diagnoses, as they struggle to work under the constraints of COVID-19 and in particular the hugely infectious Delta variant, says a Melbourne GP.
Dr Simon Benson, from a clinic in Sunshine in the city’s west, says GPs are under pressure as most practices aren’t set up to deal with such an infectious virus.
In the past few weeks, Dr Benson says he’s diagnosed a patient having a stroke during a telehealth consult, another with sepsis and a third patient who turned out to have a major deep vein thrombosis.
They all ended up being diagnosed accurately, but he and other doctors were worried about what they were not catching in telehealth.
