GPs writing more care plans than ever before

One in every four Australians has a chronic disease management plan or a mental health treatment plan written by a GP, new data suggests.
The number of care plans prepared and reviewed by GPs have risen steadily in every part of the country since 2013/14, according to the AIHW’s 2017-2018 Medicare report published on Thursday.
The report reveals that 3.6 million patients have a chronic disease management plan and 2.1 million have a mental health treatment plan.
Meanwhile, the proportion of patients seeing a GP at least annually has increased from 86% to 88% during the four years up to 2017-2018.
