Greenlight for pharmacists to administer vax in care homes: WA

The AMA has slammed a move allowing WA pharmacists to give vaccines in aged care facilities and hospitals as a “voracious” expansion push which will further fragment patient care.
A decision by the WA Government will allow pharmacists to provide vaccinations in settings other than their community pharmacies, the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) WA branch said in a statement on Monday.
These include aged care settings, public and private hospitals and community health centres.
But AMA WA president Dr Andrew Miller says the move will be detrimental to patients because it will further fragment care, which is especially worrying during COVID-19.
