Gynaecologist to pay compensation after performing unnecessary endometrial ablation

Dr Emil Gayed must pay damages to a patient who discovered by accident that he performed needless and “outdated” surgeries on her, including an endometrial ablation and cervical diathermy.
Deregistered in 2018, he was accused of needlessly removing reproductive organs and performing unnecessary surgeries on hundreds of women.
His conduct was the subject of a subsequent NSW Government inquiry, a police investigation and a NSW Government redress scheme involving at least one hundred women.
But in the latest legal case to reach the courts, Melissa Reis accused Dr Gayed of performing an unnecessary cervical ablation, curette and an endometrial ablation after she was referred by her GP for an abnormal Pap smear back in 2014.
