Half of O&G trainees think about quitting

Almost one in five say they feel depressed most of the time, reveals RANZCOG survey

Almost half of obstetrics and gynaecology trainees have deliberated throwing in the towel, with almost one in five revealing they feel depressed most of the time.

The findings come from a RANZCOG survey of 231 trainees, most of whom had graduated six years earlier.

It shows more than half (55%) have a high or very high rate of burnout, with almost two-thirds (62%) rating their workplace as highly stressful.

Furthermore, 49% said they had seriously considered leaving the program at some point, and 17% reported feeling depressed frequently or all the time in the past two weeks.
