Half of US doctors rethinking their career, reveals survey

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to hit the US, almost half of doctors are rethinking their medical careers, according to a survey.
The poll of 1251 doctors undertaken in July and September reveals many are considering retiring, shortening their hours, moving more to telehealth or switching careers altogether in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
A lack of PPE, “irritable patients” and being affected by COVID-19 themselves are just some of the factors that have led them to consider leaving the medical profession.
Overall, 48% of the doctors reported the COVID-19 crisis had caused them to “seriously rethink their career or their practice”.
