Healius fined $1.65 million over ‘inflated’ pathology rent payments

Healius paid tens of thousands above the market rate to rent rooms at two Sydney dermatology practices.

Healius Pathology will pay a $1.65 million penalty after paying inflated rents for co-located collection sites at two dermatology practices.

The Federal Court of Australia found that Healius rented a 4.8 sq m room for $150,000 a year plus GST under a 2015 agreement with three doctors in Sydney’s north west.

That same year, the corporate agreed to pay two different doctors $200,000 a year plus GST for an 8.4 sq m room at their Kingswood practice.

Both leases were renewed two years later, with an approximate 2% rent increase.
