Health department reacts to GPs quitting aged care incentive

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing says it is addressing GP practices' enquiries.

Health officials say they are “actively addressing” issues with the $112 million General Practice in Aged Care Incentive after a prominent GP revealed he was quitting due to the bureaucracy.

Adelaide GP Dr Nick Tellis told AusDoc last week he had quit the incentive, which started last July, due to the “bureaucratic trip-wires, quicksand and complexity”.

Multiple GPs echoed his sentiments.

Among the issues were the time-consuming paperwork, missing out on payments if patients died before a service cycle was completed and system errors that resulted in not being paid.
