Health Minister accuses doctors of misleading patients over safety of their three-day strike

Doctors say their planned three-day strike this week will not risk patient safety, with EDs remaining fully staffed and emergency surgeries going ahead.

But NSW Minister for Health Ryan Park says the Australian Salaried Medical Officers’ Federation NSW (ASMOF NSW) is being disingenuous about its plan to leave NSW hospitals at public holiday staff levels on 8-10 April.

“Public holiday presentations, by their nature, are always lower,” Mr Park told reporters on Monday.

“One of the busiest days of the week in EDs is Tuesdays … Doctors know and understand that.
