Health ministers moves to ‘fast-track’ specialist IMGs are too fast, AMA warns

More time is needed to address concerns about the expedited pathway set to start by the end of 2024: submission.

The AMA has hit out at health ministers’ demands to fast-track specialist IMGs into the health system amid concerns their skills will not be subject to proper scrutiny.

The Medical Board of Australia is currently tasked with creating a new “expediated pathway” which will be used  to import specialist gynaecologists and obstetricians, psychiatrists, GPs and anaesthetists by the end of this year.

The time frame has been imposed by state and federal health ministers desperate to fix medical workforce holes.

It has meant stakeholders have only been given four weeks to provide feedback
