It comes amid concern about declining immunity among those workers vaccinated at the beginning of the rollout

Frontline health workers caring for COVID-19 patients in Victoria could get a booster vaccine dose from next month.

There are urgent calls for a booster program targeting doctors and nurses amid emerging international evidence that vaccinated populations are increasingly susceptible to the Delta variant as a result of waning immune responses.

With more than half of Australian adults yet to be fully vaccinated, ATAGI has so far declined to recommend third doses â€” even for priority groups.

But that could change as additional supplies become available online in coming weeks, said AMA Victoria president Dr Roderick McRae.
