Henna tattoo smell triggers child’s reflex epilepsy: caseÂ

Mehndi is a popular form of temporary body art, with the intricate designs using henna paste most famously associated with Hindu weddings in India.
But for one unlucky nine-year-old, the earthly smell of the paste — which is typically applied at pre-wedding parties — triggered reflex epilepsy, US and Indian doctors report.
Their otherwise healthy patient suffered her first convulsion at age six after mehndi application.
She abruptly lost consciousness while standing at a washbasin and suffered convulsive movements for 20 seconds, the authors wrote in Clinical Neurophysiology.
