‘Her care was dreadful’: GP speaks out about pregnant daughter’s death
The pregnant daughter of a GP had no chance of survival by the time she was administered antibiotics following her delayed sepsis diagnosis, a coroner has found.
Annie O’Brien, 37, died from multi-organ failure caused by the infection within hours of delivering her stillborn baby at 18 weeks in August 2017.
State Coroner John Cain made no formal findings about the nursing or medical management she received at the Holmesglen Private Hospital or St Vincent’s Hospital, but noted clear evidence of deficiencies in the care provided to her.
Ms O’Brien’s parents, Dr Brian Moylan and Marguerite Moylan, want a full review of private and public health services in Victoria, a yearly audit into critical incidents in public hospitals, and to make Victorians aware of the standard of care they should expect.
