Herbal supplement ignites COVID-19 fears

A supplement marketed for immune support is ironically sparking fears among users that they have COVID-19 due to one of its side effects — a loss of taste.

ArmaForce is sold for the relief of mild URTI symptoms, including coughs, colds and runny nose, but a potential side effect of key ingredient andrographis is change in taste.

The herbal supplement has flown off the shelves during the pandemic, with sales spiking in March and April, according to manufacturer BioCeuticals.

But this “aligned” with a spike in consumer adverse reaction relating to taste disturbances from the supplement, a spokesperson said in a statement.
