Here’s the pharmacy UTI trial evidence we’ve been waiting for

The long-awaited evaluation of the Queensland Government’s foray into pharmacists diagnosing uncomplicated UTIs and treating them with antibiotics has finally been published.
The 118-page report was publicly revealed by Queensland Health earlier this week following multiple requests for access from Australian Doctor over the past six months.
The department even declined to release the report in February when the Queensland Minister for Health said its positive findings had fed into the state’s decision to let pharmacists diagnose and treat 23 medical conditions in a new trial.
The evaluation, dated April 2022, concluded that “pharmacists have the appropriate skills, competencies and training to manage the empiric treatment of uncomplicated UTIs in the community pharmacy”.
