‘High’ crust pizza sends seven diners to hospital with THC intoxication

The restaurant mistakenly used THC-infused oil borrowed from another kitchen in the same building.

A restaurant mistakenly used THC-infused oil when preparing pizza dough, sending seven diners to hospital and leaving dozens of others with dizziness, hallucinations or paranoia.

The mistake occurred when the US pizzeria ran out of cooking oil and grabbed some from a shared kitchen in the same building that was also used by a group which produced THC edibles, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported last week.

What the restaurant staff did not realise was that the edibles vendor infused their oil with THC.

“The [restaurant] owner initially thought the oil was plain canola oil but later realised it might have been infused with THC,” the CDC wrote.
