High-dose aspirin to prevent pre-eclampsia carries no excess bleeding risk: study

Low-dose and high-dose aspirin are equally effective for preventing pre-eclampsia and carry a similar risk of bleeding, an international team of doctors has reported.
The Swedish nationwide cohort study found no significant difference in postpartum haemorrhage risk among nearly 14,000 women (mean age 33) prescribed high- or low-dose aspirin during pregnancy.
“Our findings suggest that either dose may be a reasonable choice when using aspirin to prevent pre-eclampsia,” the authors, who included researchers from the University of Melbourne and Melbourne Mercy Hospital for Women, wrote in JAMA Network Open.
They added that large, randomised trials comparing different doses were desirable to confirm their findings.
