Higher risk of preterm birth in mothers with OCD, study shows
Women with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have an increased risk of a number of adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes, including gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and preterm birth, according to Swedish findings.
Researchers from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm examined the associations of maternal OCD with pregnancy, delivery and neonatal outcomes in two studies.
In a Swedish cohort, more than 8300 pregnancies in women with OCD were compared with over 2.1 million pregnancies in women without OCD.
And in a British Columbia (BC), Canada cohort, 2341 pregnancies in women with OCD were compared with almost 822,000 pregnancies in women without OCD.
