Historic data shows how few IMGs gain GP fellowship

IMGs both inside and outside the registrar training program are passing the RACGP’s three fellowship exams at lower rates than Australian-trained doctors.
There have been long-running concerns about the support available for IMGs working in areas of need who are attempting to gain fellowship through the so-called practice eligible pathway.
Last week, Australian Doctor reported just 37% of non-registrar IMG candidates passed the February sitting of the college’s Key Feature Problem (KFP) exam — nearly half the pass rate for registrars.
The data was released this month by the RACGP, who said it showed why non-GP registrars needed the support of the college’s new Practice Experience Program, which began this year.
