Hospital authority punished for 208 labour law breaches in unpaid overtime case

The hospital authority that lost a landmark class action on junior doctors’ unpaid overtime must pay $316,260 for breaching labour laws 208 times, the Federal Court of Australia has decided.
Last year, registrar Dr Gaby Bolton and the Australian Salaried Medical Officers’ Federation (ASMOF) Victoria spearheaded a successful class action against Frankston Hospital’s corporate body Peninsula Health.
It paved the way for other class actions, including a record-breaking $230 million settlement in NSW.
Earlier this year, Dr Bolton received around $8000 in back pay after Peninsula Health abandoned its plan to appeal.
