Hospital scientist banned after ‘life-threatening’ behaviour

A woman, who had been struck off the health register in the UK, worked as a hospital scientist for NSW Health where she endangered the life of a patient by choosing incompatible blood for transfusion, an investigation has found.
The Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) has banned Titilayo Oyedele from providing health services, saying she posed a “serious risk” to the public’s health and safety.
Ms Oyedele arrived in Australia in November 2014 and since that time has held various positions as a technical officer and hospital scientist at NSW Health Pathology.
The commission found Ms Oyedele, originally from Nigeria, had lied about her employment history, including having been struck off overseas, and didn’t have the appropriate qualifications for her role.
