How a PHN’s viability initiative helped this solo GP practice to improve
An upgraded consultation room and improved practice management skills are some of the benefits a solo GP has received after signing up to his local Primary Health Network’s practice rescue plan.
Dr Rajan Sarin and his team at Medowie Medical Centre in NSW applied to take part in the Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network’s (PHN’s) Sustainability and Viability Initiative (SAVI) last August.
The initiative was launched a year earlier, after the PHN became concerned by the high number of practice closures in the region — around 40-50 had shut since 2022.
The aim was to give practices tailored support for their workforce, operations and finances.
